Dream Preparatory Academy is seeking an Afterschool Program Assistant who will be responsible for supporting the Afterschool Program Administrator in providing a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for students in the academy's afterschool program. This role involves direct supervision of students, leading and assisting with activities, providing homework support, and fostering positive relationships with students and colleagues.
Student Supervision: Directly supervise a group of students during all afterschool activities, including snack time, homework sessions, free play, outdoor activities, and organized enrichment.
Activity Facilitation: Assist in planning, preparing, and leading age-appropriate recreational, educational, and enrichment activities (e.g., arts and crafts, games, sports, STEM projects).
Communication & Collaboration: Communicate clearly and respectfully with students, Afterschool Administrator, and other afterschool staff. Maintain professional and positive communication with parents during pick-up/drop-off, deferring complex issues to the Afterschool Administrator.
Program Environment: Help maintain a clean, organized, and inviting program space. Promote a positive, inclusive, and respectful atmosphere where all students feel welcome and valued.
Administrative Support (as needed): Assist with light administrative tasks such as taking attendance, organizing supplies, or preparing materials for activities. Maintain confidentiality of student and program information.
Professional Development: Attend all required staff meetings and professional development training sessions. Be willing to learn and implement new strategies for student engagement and behavior management.
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Some college coursework in Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
Experience: Previous experience working with school-aged children in a group setting (e.g., afterschool programs, summer camps, childcare centers, tutoring) is strongly preferred.
