Job purpose

The ECEAP State Preschool Program seeks a qualified Education–Disabilities Specialist to join our team. This position provides leadership, guidance, and support to teaching staff and families of children with disabilities enrolled in ECEAP. The Specialist promotes inclusive practices, supports compliance with ECEAP Performance Standards and state and federal requirements, and ensures children with disabilities receive high-quality, individualized early learning experiences.

Duties

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Monitor child screenings and identify children with potential disabilities.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a referral process protocol for evaluation for special services.
  • Collaborate with teachers and families to refer, support, and attend meetings related to Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for children with disabilities.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and support to teachers in implementing positive interactions and guidance, to all children including those with IEPs and where differentiated instruction strategies are needed.
  • Develop with families and teaching staff individual care plans for children with developmental needs.  
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between teachers, families, and external service providers.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state and federal regulations (IDEA, WACs, ECEAP Performance standards) related to special education in early childhood settings.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of professional development opportunities for staff on topics related to disabilities.
  • Advocate for inclusive practices within the ECEAP program.
  • Monitor child assessments, family conference completion, and mobility mentoring
  • Monitor and maintain accurate and confidential records.
  • Monitor and support staff in Creative Curriculum implementation, lesson planning and child individualization.
  • Collaborate with ECEAP Administrator and inform of progress, trends, needs etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the ECEAP Administrator to support the overall success of the preschool program.

Requirements

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, Special Education, or a related field or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with children with disabilities in an early childhood setting.
  • Strong knowledge of child development, positive behavior supports, and differentiated instruction strategies.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Culturally competent and committed to equity and inclusion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and in using databases.
  • Pass DCYF Portable Background Check
  • Proof of negative TB test
  • Proof of MMR

Additional Desired Skills Include:

  • Experience with Head Start or ECEAP Performance Standards, WAC guidelines and best practices.
  • Bilingual ability (English and Spanish a plus).
  • Familiarity with adaptive materials for young children.
