Summary

Learning Tree Preschool & Childcare has served the Portage area for more than 50 years, supporting children from infancy at 6 weeks old through age 12. The center remained open throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and still operates at full capacity each year. Since COVID, a waitlist has enabled us to continually seek passionate individuals who appreciate early childhood education and are eager to collaborate with a team. Our continued expansion has created a new teaching position in our young preschool classroom for children aged 2 to 3.


As a teacher, your role will be to promote children's safety and learning by developing and maintaining a program that encourages their health, growth, and progress. You'll create an inspiring setting and introduce fresh approaches to nurture language, listening, social, and physical development through engaging activities.


Full-time teachers work 9-hour days (including a 1-hour break).

Duties

• Set up indoor and outdoor areas to encourage creative play, motor skill development, and safety.

• Participate in professional meetings, conferences, and workshops to strengthen your skills.

• Attend staff meetings as required.

• Set and enforce rules and procedures to maintain order.

• Clearly communicate lesson, unit, and project objectives to children.

• Identify children with emotional, developmental, or health concerns and discuss these issues with supervisors, parents/guardians, and child development specialists.

• Observe and assess children's performance, behavior, social skills, and physical well-being.

• Organize and label materials, and display students’ work in age-appropriate ways.

• Lead activities to support physical, mental, and social development such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips.

• Teach healthy eating habits and personal hygiene.

• Instruct basic concepts like colors, shapes, numbers, letters, personal hygiene, and social skills.

• Read books to classes or small groups.

• Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.

• Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips.

• Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.

• Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.

• Serve meals and snacks in accordance with nutritional guidelines.

• Teach basic skills, such as color, shape, number and letter recognition, personal hygiene, and social skills.

Requirements

Preference is given to candidates with at least 3 college credits, an associate or bachelor’s degree, or those currently enrolled in Early Childhood Education programs. Applicants who have completed training that fulfills the State of Wisconsin's lead teacher requirements will also be considered if they are dedicated to working in early childhood education.
