Preschool Assistant Teacher - Long Term Temporary

The Earthplace Preschool is currently hiring a temporary assistant teacher in our mixed age classroom.

Preschool teachers work as part of a team. At Earthplace Preschool, we understand that the teacher's approach and demeanor set the tone for the classroom. An intentional, thoughtful approach and calm demeanor are imperative for success with young children.

The assistant teacher is a member of the teaching team who shares the responsibility with the lead teacher for the care and education of an assigned group of children. The assistant teacher is responsible for planning with the teaching team, implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum, supervision, and helping to provide a healthy and safe learning environment.

This position is to help cover for a fellow teachers' maternity leave. The position will ideally begin in January 2026 and end June 5th, 2026. There will be an opportunity to stay on as a Summer Camp Counselor based on performance.

Duties

Earthplace Preschool offers a unique brand of nature-based preschool in Westport, CT. Each day children learn through exploration, investigation and experimentation! The children construct their own learning using critical thinking skills, creativity, and innovation. Our program for infants and toddlers at Earthplace promises the same high quality of care and innovation. These young children need guidance in language acquisition, encouragement of gross motor and fine motor skills, as well assistance with toilet training. These young children are just starting to share, think about others feelings, and form true friendships. Earthplace is looking for teachers that have an understanding of child development to help encourage these skills within this unique group of children. Teachers will be offered training opportunities throughout the year. At Earthplace, we encourage and expect teachers to increase their knowledge and facilitate the learning of young children!

Requirements

• ECE courses and/or 2 years working with toddlers and/or preschoolers. 
• A passion and commitment to make a positive difference in the lives of young children and families.
• Hard-working, reliable and desire to learn
• Working knowledge of CT Statutes and Regulations, NAEYC criteria, and the CT ELDS
• Positive Attitude

• Excellent Communication Skills
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Should be comfortable picking up 30 pounds to chest height

Benefits

Closing Shift Mon-Fri 10am - 6pm

Temporary positions are not elidable for benefits.

$17 - $19 / hour based on experience and education level
