Preschool Teacher - Substitute

Summary

Hopmeadow Nursery School is a small play-based preschool located in Simsbury.

We are looking for a long term substitute teacher in our PreK class. This is a part-time position: M & Th 8:30-1:15, T, W & F 8:30 -12:15, working with a group of up to 13 children with a co-teacher. There is the possiblilty of more hours for extended days/lunch bunch.

We are also looking for per diem substitute teachers. These are part-time positions with hours between 8:30-1:15 M-F. as needed.

These are "as needed positions " that may lead to a permanent position.  Our substitute teachers are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children's interests and needs under the direction of the teachers and the Director. They must be flexible, have good communication skills and be able to work well with others in a team environment. They assist the lead teacher in implementing the planned learninng experiences. Long term substitutes will be required to plan learning experiences when they are ready. All substitutes must be able to develop positive relationships with the children, staff and parents.

Duties

•  Assist in the implementation of learning experiences and encourage children to participate.
• Actively engage in activities; assit with set up and clean up of activities.
• Be able to communicate with parents when necessary.
• Encourage self-help.
• Ensure appropriate classroom behavior management,
• Establish and enforce rules for behavior, support children by providing positive guidance and redirection
• Provide a safe environment for preschool children.
• Follow the school's policies and state regulations.

Requirements

• The ability to participate in a collaborative environment with staff, children and parents.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Strong understanding of child development.

• Successful completion of a OEC required full background check

• At least 21 years of age with at least 2 years experience working with preschoolers

• Two professional references.
