Summary
The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals and snacks for children in a childcare setting. This includes cooking and portioning breakfast, lunch, and snacks according to approved menus and dietary guidelines. The Cook delivers meals to classrooms and the cafeteria, collects and returns food items and equipment after mealtimes, and maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment. Additional duties include weekly food inventory management, proper food storage, and compliance with all health and safety regulations.
Duties
- Prepare and cook breakfast, lunch, and snacks in accordance with established menus and portion requirements.
- Deliver meals and snacks to classrooms and the cafeteria on schedule.
- Collect food carts, trays, and utensils after meals and return them to the kitchen.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, equipment, and utensils daily.
- Maintain accurate food temperature logs and cleaning records.
- Receive, label, and store food supplies properly according to safety standards.
- Conduct weekly inventory and report food and supply needs to the Director
- Ensure compliance with local health department, licensing, and food safety regulations.
- Support special dietary needs and allergies as directed by childcare management.
- Work cooperatively with staff to promote a positive and safe mealtime experience for children.
- Plan menu options.
- Order materials, supplies, or equipment.
