Duties
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supervision and Care of Children
- Ensure children are supervised at all times within the proper ratios for the age group
- Ensure care routines (diapering/toileting, feeding/meals, sleeping/naps, etc.) are carried out in a timely and nurturing manner
- Comfort children when they are upset and develop trusting relationships with children
- Establish predictable daily routines and provide reinforcement to create a positive classroom environment
- Make sure that the classroom environment is well maintained to ensure the safety of the children
- Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that is developmentally appropriate for the age group of the children
- Observe children and make notes of developmental milestones
- Integrate children with special needs a positive, inclusive and respectful manner
- Be familiar with emergency procedures
2. Curriculum and Pedagogy
- Plan and implement curriculum to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children in the program
- Provide nutritious snacks and lunches
- Provide adequate equipment and activities
- Ensure equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained and safe at all times
- Provide weekly and monthly classroom plans and projections
- Develop appropriate programs and activities
- Establish policies and procedures including acceptable disciplinary policies
- Be familiar with emergency procedures
3. Communicate with parents and members of the community
Main Responsibilities
- Discuss children’s development with parents
- Discuss identified problems and needs with professionals as appropriate
- Participate in community activities
- Promote literacy and early education
4. Maintain program administration
Main Responsibilities
- Keep parents informed of program expectations, program activities and their child’s progress
- Develop and maintain current, accurate and confidential client files
- Develop daily activity plans
5. Perform other related duties as required

The teacher would normally attain the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for the position through completion of a post-secondary Early Education Program combined with related day care and/or preschool teaching experience. Equivalencies will be considered.
Requirements
Minimum credential is a CDA. Higher credentials and experience are preferred.
Minimum of 2 years experience working with young children infant - 4-year-old.
