Summary
A Co-Preschool Teacher is primarily responsible for the care and education of the group of children ages 32 months and up. As a member of the Magic Mountain Children’s Center teaching team a Co-Preschool Teacher plans and implements developmentally appropriate curriculum, engages regularly with families, observes and records children’s progress, and maintains a code of conduct that adheres to and supports the program mission.
Duties
Responsibilities
- Plans and facilitates developmentally appropriate activities for children daily including music, language, math, science, art, dramatic play, dance and movement activities as a team
- Ensures that children are adequately supervised
- Promotes critical thinking and problem solving
- Promotes a balance between child-initiated and teacher-initiated activities, and bases projects on the interests of the children
- Acts without bias and projects sensitivity towards cultural diversity
- Promotes independence, cooperation and positive self-esteem and self-concept
- Provides nurturing attention and uses positive approaches to guide behavior
- Provides organization and cleaning for their classroom
Administrative
- Observes, records and communicates the development of children
- Keeps track of the children’s attendance
- Enforces health policies
Communication
- Provides parents with information about their child’s experience for the day
- Treats parents with respect, equally and as partners
- Conducts parent conferences at minimum twice per year
- Shares material and ideas with staff
- Listens to feedback from colleagues at MMCC
- Be an equal part of the team and share your views and opinions as appropriate.
- Help peers, Executive Director and Board of Directors plan for the future of MMCC

- Maintains an ethical and professional manner with children, colleagues and parents
- Maintains a positive nature with families, staff and local shareholders
- Participates in continuing education and professional development workshops as required
- Supports MMCC philosophies and policies

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Is at least 20 years of age, is a high school graduate or has completed their GED and has one of the following qualifications:
- A vermont Early Childhood Ladder Level Three Certificate
- An associate degree with a major or concentration in Early Childhood, Child and Human Development, Elementary Education, Child and Family Services or Related Field
- Certificate of Completion from the Registered Child Care Apprenticeship Program
- Child Care Certificate from the Community College of Vermont
- Complete of Child Development Associate Certificate (CDA)
- Successful completion of 21 college credits with early childhood or school age focus
- Minimum one year of experience working with children grade 3 and younger
- Ability to relate well with children
- Understanding of curriculum development for the age group assigned to
