Summary
We are seeking a reliable, safety-conscious, and child-friendly individual to serve as a Bus Driver and After-School Support Staff member for our childcare center. This dual-role position is responsible for safely transporting children to and from school, field trips, and other scheduled activities, while also providing hands-on support in our after-school program.
The ideal candidate has a clean driving record, experience working with children, and a calm, positive demeanor. When not driving, the support staff duties include assisting with snack distribution, supervising homework and playtime, helping maintain a safe and organized environment, and supporting teachers with classroom management and activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a childcare center vehicle, following all traffic laws and safety guidelines
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Maintain accurate transportation logs and communicate with administrative staff as needed
- Supervise children during transport and ensure proper behavior and safety protocols
- Provide engaging supervision and support during after-school hours
- Assist with classroom transitions, activities, and cleanup
This role is essential in helping create a nurturing, structured, and safe environment for the children we serve.
Duties
- Follow safety rules as students board and exit buses or cross streets near bus stops.
- Comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
- Check the condition of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in working order.
- Maintain order among pupils during trips to ensure safety.
- Pick up and drop off students at regularly scheduled neighborhood locations, following strict time schedules.
- Report any bus malfunctions or needed repairs.
- Drive gasoline, diesel, or electrically powered multi-passenger vehicles to transport students between neighborhoods, schools, and school activities.
- Prepare and submit reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage, fuel consumption, or fares received.
- Maintain knowledge of first-aid procedures.
- Keep bus interiors clean for passengers.
- Read maps and follow written and verbal geographic directions.
- Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations, using telephones or mobile two-way radios.
- Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort.
