Summary
The Young Toddler Teacher provides a warm, nurturing, and engaging environment for children ages 1–2.5 years. This position focuses on helping toddlers explore, learn, and grow through hands-on play and interactive experiences. The teacher supports each child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development while maintaining a safe and caring classroom. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential, as this role works closely with families and other staff to create a positive and consistent learning environment.
Duties
- Provide a safe, loving, and stimulating environment for children ages 1–2.5 years.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate activities that support early learning and development.
- Encourage exploration, independence, and social interaction through play.
- Maintain daily routines for meals, diapering, rest time, and transitions.
- Foster positive communication and relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
- Observe and document each child’s growth, progress, and needs.
- Model and teach gentle guidance, respect, and kindness.
- Keep the classroom clean, organized, and inviting.
- Follow all licensing regulations, center policies, and health and safety procedures.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and ongoing professional development.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience working with infants or toddlers in a childcare setting preferred.
- Ability to build positive, nurturing relationships with children and families.
- Strong communication, patience, and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate practices.
- Must meet all state licensing requirements and complete required annual training hours.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and actively engage in play and supervision throughout the day.
Nice To Haves
- CDA or associate degree in Early Childhood Education.
- Experience creating lesson plans or daily activity schedules.
- Familiarity with the Tennessee Early Learning Developmental Standards (TN-ELDS).
- Comfort communicating with families through Brightwheel or similar apps.
- Creativity in planning fun, hands-on learning experiences.
- A calm, patient, and positive attitude during transitions or challenging moments.
- Willingness to collaborate with coworkers and support other classrooms when needed.
