The PS 4 Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher and the Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment and develop and Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their families. The PS 4 Assistant teacher observes and documents children's interest and progress, and is responsible for assisting in implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children's interests and needs under the direction of the Lead Teacher and the Director.
CDA, AA, BS, BA, or MA degree in Child Development, Early Childhood, Elementary or related field
3+ years teaching experience in a preschool or elementary school
Work hours Monday-Friday 8:30-2:00
Children attend 9-1:30
Calendar closely follows local public school annual calendar (164 instructional days, 10 in-service days, 28 holidays for a total of 202 days for employment agreement)
Opportunity to earn extra money for Stay and Play after school 1:30-2:30
