TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS:
•Must meet basic requirements of DHS licensing.
•Attend staff meetings and in-service training as required, a total of (18 hrs.) and (30 hrs.) for new staff.
•Ability to relate positively to young children is essential.
•Previous teaching experience as a preschool teacher preferred.
•Knowledge of the social, emotional, physical, intellectual and creative needs of young children.
•Experience working with parents or demonstration of ability to relate to parents, understanding their needs and requests.
•Capable of driving a car or van with children as passengers.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
•Plan and execute an educational program of age-appropriate activities for children in your care and identify each child’s individual capabilities and needs.
•Create a learning environment.
•Assure the welfare, health, and safety of the children in the class.
•Organize and maintain classroom activity areas, materials, and supplies, and keep the director advised of equipment and materials that need to be repaired and replaced.
•Take daily attendance and keep all required reports pertaining to the class, including emergency information, in a cabinet closet to the exit door.
•Train the assistant and make constructive use of her time.
•Establish and maintain effective communication with parents.
•Send out a monthly newsletter or calendar with upcoming month’s activities and plans.
•Build good communications with other staff to create a professional atmosphere.
•Attend pre-service and in-service training as required.
•Understand childcare requirements.
• Keep Director informed of any classroom problems, change in schedules, such as playground, music and end of the year parties or any other activities.
•Include field trip enrichment for children pas the car seat age and restrictions.
•Arrive on time with lesson plans ready, supplies available, and a positive attitude.
•Maintain an attractive classroom with age appropriate materials.
•Purchase specialty supplies, following the guides in the personnel policy manual.
•Proper playground supervision.
•Check to see that parents are signing in and out each day.
•Keep records to assure that every child’s folder is complete.
•Testing in the fall and again in the spring for 3’s and 4’s.
•Offer conferences to all parents once each year before registration.
•Any other duties that are needed to properly perform the job.
This job will start in August 2025. Our school year runs Aug 2025 to May 2026.
