New Hope for Families provides shelter and early learning programs that keep families together and lift children into a promising future.


The New Hope Early Learning Center enrolls up to 54 children across our 4 classrooms. We provide child-centered care, focus on Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP), and use an innovative continuity of care model that creates secure, thriving relationships between our teachers and children. In addition, we pursue the highest standards of excellence, attaining level 4 Paths to Quality and national accreditation. Best of all, we reserve half of our enrollment spots in each classroom for families who need it most-- families who have experienced homelessness. We can’t provide top quality childcare without an outstanding staff, and we are looking for someone with the right skills and experience to join our team.


About the Job

Assistant Teachers join a team of 2 Co-Lead teachers. The Assistant’s role is to support the lead teachers’ curriculum and activities, build meaningful relationships with children, help maintain the classroom space, and build their skills and knowledge in early childhood education and development. This is a full time position for someone looking to make a career in early learning. The candidate will start immediately part-time until Jump Start classes begin in the summer of 2025 when they will be paid for 25 hours of assistant work and 15 hours of coursework, equaling 40 hours per week.


About Jump Start Teacher Training Program

Jump Start is a new partnership designed to train teachers so they can lead a high quality classroom of their own. Jump Start allows the participant to complete a three-year Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education through Ivy Tech, with the ability to transfer as a Junior to any Indiana University. In addition the participant will learn on site under a master teacher, and have space and paid time to do their coursework with other Jump Start students. New Hope for Families and the TEACH Scholarship pay tuition and fees. New Hope pays for 25 hours per week working in the classroom, plus 15 hours per week paid time for coursework on site with the Jump Start cohort.

Duties

Job Activities

-Under the direction of the Lead Teachers, provide care and education for children following our philosophy of child-centered learning

-Builds relationships with each student by initiating and persisting in conversations

-Builds relationships with each student by initiating and persisting in active play, both indoors and outdoors

-Under the direction of the Lead Teachers, communicates with parents in a clear, professional manner.

-Under the direction of the Lead Teachers, prepares and arranges classroom experiences for children, and tidies up after they are finished (E.g.: sets out paint and paint brushes, engages with children throughout painting, and cleans up the paint and brushes after)

-Helps prepare, serve, and clean up after snacks and meals.

-Keeps the classrooms neat and sanitary by tidying up and using simple cleaning supplies like brooms, mops, and cleaning chemicals

-Helps maintain the outdoor classroom space by tidying up and organizing toys and equipment

-Assists children with basic hygiene like handwashing, diapering, potty-training, and first aid

-Attends in-service days for professional development and training

-Maintains training hours in I-Lead

-Other duties as assigned


Other Job Details

-Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

-This role works with cleaning chemicals and pushes a mop and broom.

-This role includes periods of prolonged standing, moving up and down from the floor, and working outdoors in all seasons.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

-Must have High School Diploma or equivalent

-Must be willing to participate in Jump Start

-Must be willing to undergo CPR and first aid training

-Must be willing to undergo criminal background check and drug screen

-Must be willing to undergo a physical and TB test

Preferred Qualifications

-Some degree progress in a CDA or Early Learning degree

-Experience in a preschool teaching setting

-Collaborative team player

-Ready to receive guidance and mentorship in the classroom

About Us

New Hope for Families provides shelter and early learning programs that keep families together and lift children into a promising future. Our Early Learning Center has four classrooms, Infants, Ones, Twos and a PreK. We can enroll up to forty-eight children and half of our enrollment is reserved for children who have experienced homelessness. The New Hope ELC is a Paths To Quality Level 3 school, and is pursuing Level 4and national accreditation.
