Position Overview: As a Classroom Support Specialist / Floater, you will collaborate closely with our experienced Lead Teachers to support the developmental needs of children across various age groups. This dynamic role offers flexibility and the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in early childhood education. You will be crucial in creating a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment.
Duties
- Support Lead Teachers: Collaborate with Lead Teachers during lessons, activities, and classroom management, offering additional assistance to ensure a nurturing and educational environment for children.
- Supervision and Engagement: Ensure the safety and well-being of children by supervising them during activities, playtime, meals, and rest periods, actively engaging with them to foster their development.
- Adaptability: Be flexible in working with diverse age groups and in various classrooms as needed, providing support wherever necessary to meet the evolving needs of the center.
- Curriculum Implementation: Help implement age-appropriate educational programs and activities that promote cognitive, social, and emotional growth, aligning with the center's curriculum goals.
- Daily Care Duties: Support children with daily care tasks such as diapering, restroom use, handwashing, and mealtime, ensuring prompt assistance and maintaining hygiene standards.
- Break Supervision: Organize and supervise breaks for teachers, ensuring a positive and respectful mealtime experience that fosters a supportive atmosphere.
- Classroom Organization: Help set up and organize the classroom, including arranging materials and resources for daily activities to facilitate a conducive learning environment.
- Effective Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with parents, regularly updating their child's progress, daily activities, and mealtime habits, fostering a collaborative relationship.
- Positive Role Modeling: Lead by example as a positive role model for children, demonstrating kindness, patience, and respect in all interactions to promote a nurturing and supportive atmosphere.
Requirements
- Flexibility: Be adaptable and willing to work varied shifts, including opening or closing as needed, between the hours of 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Minimum Age: Candidates must be at least 18 years old.
- Background Clearance: Successfully pass various background checks, including those conducted through Bright from the Start.
- CPR & First Aid Certification: Hold current CPR & First Aid certification or be willing to obtain certification upon hiring.
- Strong Work Ethic: Demonstrate a strong work ethic, punctuality, and minimal absences to ensure reliable attendance.
- Understanding of Child Development: Understanding young children's unique needs and appropriate expectations.
- Physical Requirements: Be capable of kneeling, bending, squatting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying children weighing up to 70 lbs.
- Reliable Transportation: Have dependable transportation to and from work.
- Education: Hold a High School Diploma or equivalent (a Child Development Associate (CDA) or relevant coursework is a plus).
- Childcare Experience: Previous experience working in childcare is preferred but not required.
- Interpersonal Skills: Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Passion for Child Development: Display a genuine passion for working with children and contributing to their growth and development.
- Adaptability: Adapting to different age groups and classroom environments as needed.
- Punctuality and Reliability: Maintain punctuality and reliability as essential in fulfilling the role's responsibilities.
