Summary
We are now seeking a skilled Kitchen Manager to oversee our preschool's kitchen operations. The ideal candidate will have a desire to work in an early childhood setting, be responsible for managing the preschool's kitchen, planning and preparing quality and healthy meals, and maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment. Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts and oversees the preparation of meals in accordance with the Virginia Department of Health requirements
- Helps deliver food from the kitchen to the classrooms ready to be served as suitable for the children's age and development and helps cleanup.
- Stores food before and after serving.
- Every day will be responsible for washing and sterilizing dishes, pots and utensils.
- Cleans common areas: staff restroom, laundry room and multi-purpose room daily.
- Collects and completes laundry as needed daily, distributing clean laundry as necessary.
- Clean kitchen and dining areas thoroughly, including sanitizing equipment, furniture, and sweeping & mopping kitchen floors
- Refill chemical spray bottles for kitchen, bathrooms, and classrooms
- Is responsible for making sure children with food allergies receive appropriate food, milk, etc.
- Helps to plan and follows the monthly food menus. Reports any deviations to the Director.
- Takes inventory of pantry contents and places food distributor orders as necessary.
- Takes inventory of janitorial supplies and places orders as necessary.
- Creates appropriate shopping lists and performs shopping as necessary.
- During meals, assists with serving children; giving priority to the classroom that may be short staffed and needing assistance.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director.
- Coordinate with Lead Teachers in creating a schedule to assist classrooms with cooking experiences as necessary.
PERSONAL APPEARANCE AND HYGIENE
- Relates well and works well with staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
- Is enthusiastic about preparing nutritious meals for children, independent in responsibility, manages time efficiently. Reports to work on time.
- Is dependable, absenteeism is kept at a minimum. Reports to the Director before 7:00 a.m. if ill or if an emergency arises.
- Maintains a neat and clean appearance.
- Has good personal hygiene.
- Follows supervisor’s instructions.
- Is mature, stable, friendly, warm, patient, understanding, tactful, and courteous.

- Attends mandatory monthly staff meetings & trainings
- Helps in the classroom as requested by Director (as needed).

Requirements
- Must have High School degree or GED and be at least 18 years of age.
- Must complete all required background checks and TB Screening.
- Must be a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM)
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Candidate must; have good health and be agile enough to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, and lift at least 35 pounds
- Must have the ability to read, write and keep records.
- Experience working in a kitchen.
