Summary

The Daycare Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of children to and from the daycare facility, as well as on field trips and other scheduled activities. The role involves ensuring the safety and well-being of all child passengers, adhering to established routes and schedules, and providing a positive, welcoming environment for children during transit.

Duties

Safe Operation of the Bus: Operate the daycare bus safely, following all traffic laws and daycare policies to ensure the safety of child passengers and other road users.

Pick-Up and Drop-Off: Transport children between their homes, the daycare facility, and field trip locations according to an established schedule, ensuring timely arrivals and departures.

Child Safety: Supervise children during boarding, transport, and disembarking to ensure their safety. Assist young children in securing seat belts or child safety seats as needed.

Communication: Communicate effectively with daycare staff, parents, and guardians about schedules, delays, or any issues related to transportation.

Vehicle Maintenance: Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in good working condition. Report any maintenance or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel immediately.

Emergency Response: Respond appropriately to any emergencies or incidents during transit, including administering first aid if necessary and following emergency protocols.

Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate logs of driving activities, incidents, maintenance checks, and fuel usage.

Behavior Management: Promote a positive, respectful environment on the bus, managing children's behavior according to the daycare’s guidelines and policies.

Cleanliness: Ensure the bus is clean, tidy, and free of hazards before and after each trip, creating a safe and welcoming environment for the children.

Requirements

Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL): Must possess a valid CDL with passenger (P) and school bus (S) endorsements, if applicable.

Clean Driving Record: A safe driving history with no major traffic violations.

Experience: Previous experience as a bus driver, particularly in transporting children, is preferred.

Childcare Experience: A basic understanding of child safety and behavior management is required. Experience working with young children is highly desirable.

Physical Fitness: Ability to perform the job's physical demands, including assisting young children on and off the bus.

Background Check: Must pass a comprehensive background check, including child abuse registry clearance, to ensure the safety of the children.

First Aid and CPR Certification: Must have or be willing to obtain first aid and CPR certification.
