Summary
The Teacher Assistant is responsible for supporting the lead teacher and the children in the classroom environment. Teacher Assistants must be willing to collaborate and problem solve in a team environment. Teacher Assistants must understand children’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Assistant Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children and effectively communicate with colleagues and parents.
Duties
- Maintain a safe, clean learning environment.
- Ensure children's safety and well-being by maintaining a safe environment and supervising children
- Keep classrooms clean and organized, and pay attention to detail
- Develop observation skills
- Interact with children, parents, and staff, and provide information in a way that everyone can understand
- Help develop and implement strategies to promote positive behavior and create a conducive learning environment
- Assist lead teachers with activities and instruction
Requirements
- Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
- High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
- A strong understanding of child development.
- Must clear full background check and must pass health screening.
- Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl.
