Preschool Teacher

Summary

The Essex Aftercare Program of Essex Preschool seeks a preschool teacher with experience with toddlers. The ideal candidate will have patience, creativity, and energy with toddlers and knowledge of toddler developmental needs.   Teachers hours are approximately 8:30 - 5:30 or split between two part time staff members: 8:30 - 1:00 and 12:00 - 5:30.

Duties

Key responsibilities for Aftercare teacher:

• Follow the directions of the Director and assist in supporting the smooth running of the toddler program 
• Plan activities that meet program goals, ensure the safety of children, and communicate with parents, staff and director. 
• Maintain facility and equipment. Clean up and light maintenance. 
• Supervise walking fields trips in Essex Village: library, town green, etc.
• Provides emotional support, manages student behavior, follows incident report procedures, and regularly communicates with parents  
• Ensures the classroom is safe, follows security protocols, practices safety and security procedures.

Requirements

Educational Requirements for the Aftercare Teacher

• Required High School Diploma 
• Prefer associates or bachelors degree, or working towards either, certificate in early childhood education, or other post secondary training.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

• Prior experience with children
• Prior experience with preschool aged children and/or toddlers and infants
• First Aid, CPR, Medicine administration and EpiPen trained or willingness to be trained
• Must clear a full background check and must pass health screening.

Physical Requirements  

• Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl. 
• A specific vision ability will be required including the ability to see up close and up to a certain distance, to see colors, have peripheral vision and depth perception.
