Description

Summary

The Nutrition Services Specialist is responsible for the monthly activities of a Sponsoring Organization

administering the federal Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) ensuring compliance

with state and federal requirements which govern the agency’s sponsorship of family child care

homes and child care centers participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program and

clerical duties for the CACFP as necessary.

Duties

  • Evaluate monthly CACFP provider claims for reimbursement and determine each provider’s monthly reimbursement.
  • Compile and prepare for submission the monthly sponsor’s CACFP claim for reimbursement with supporting documents to the Kentucky Department of Education by the fifteenth day of each month.
  • Coordinate with the Accounting Department staff distribution of monthly reimbursement.
  • Maintain the State Agency and 4-C data system for each sponsored home and child care center.
  • Maintain required tier documents and income eligibility for provider reimbursement and benefits.
  • Review school data in the service area required for tiered reimbursement.
  • Provide on-site initial training on CACFP policies, nutritional requirements and procedures.
  • Forward required new provider documents to the State Agency and communicate with state staff throughout the approval process.
  • Ensure documentation is collected and maintained to support each provider’s eligibility for participation and meal reimbursement level according to state requirements.
  • Perform monitor review visits and follow-up visits with participating homes and centers as required by federal/state regulations and document visits in the agency data system.
  • Develop provider training curriculum materials and forms used by providers and staff for program compliance. Plan and present required CACFP provider training.
  • Plan and execute family child care recruitment activities and programs which support family child care providers in the 4-C Kentucky service areas.
  • Provide ongoing evaluation of provider needs and adapt technical assistance to the individual needs of providers.
  • Assist with annual contract renewal and funding activities.
  • Provide CACFP and regulatory information to potential family child care providers who inquire.
  • Present program material in the community and at trainings as requested.
  • Attend training required by the Kentucky Department of Education for family child care homes sponsors.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities that contribute to your job performance and understanding.
  • Participate in visibility events that publicize the agency and the department at least annually.
  • Perform any such duties as may be necessary to facilitate the operation of the Nutrition Department and the 4-C programs as directed by the Nutrition Manager, 4-C Executive Director, or 4-C Assistant Director.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


Bachelors Degree or equivalent related experience in Nutrition, Home Economics, Early Childhood

Education or related fields. Display an understanding of current state and federal regulations that

govern the CACFP in child care homes preferred.


EXPERIENCE:


Three years minimum experience working with young children in a child care setting or a CACFP

sponsorship is preferred.


SKILLS:


  • Ability to organize tasks.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with providers.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Perform duties in the office, child care centers, and in Family Child Care Providers’ homes.

  • Have a reliable automobile for transportation.

Regular work hours are Monday – Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with a 35-hour work week. This position will have occasional requirements for after-hours availability.
