Position: Preschool Toddler Assistant Teacher

Hours: Part-Time, 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM Monday/Wednesday/Thursday

Responsibilities:

  • Support the classroom and lead educator, implementing Creative Curriculum and Conscious Discipline (training provided)
  • Provide a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Follow licensing and NAEYC standards, training provided.
  • Communicate effectively with families, children, and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with young children.
  • Knowledge of play-based learning principles.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Relevant early childhood education experience (preferred).

Duties


A. DUTIES: The duties of the staff member are as follows:

 

Provide enriching environment for young children

·      Develop relationships/connections with children to build trust and assure safety.

  • Assist teacher in preparing classroom setting and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, problem solving and literacy appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of children.
  • Assist teacher in implementing a program based on NAEYC Developmentally Appropriate Practice, NAEYC Accreditation standards, Conscious Discipline, and Creative CurriculumÒ which encourages children’s physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual development.
  • Assist teacher by sharing developmental observations of children.
  • Participate in Chapel with the children.
  • Support the Individual Education Plan of any child with special needs.

 

Interact with Children’s Families

·      Build collaborative relationships with families and demonstrate respect for each family’s culture.

  • Attend Back to School night and attend two family group events with families.
  • Follow teacher’s direction in keeping families informed about classroom activities and child’s progress.
  • Assist teacher in involving families in classroom activities.

 

Fulfill Professional responsibilities

  • Report to and be supervised by the Preschool Director.
  • Meet with Director twice yearly to discuss children’s progress and personal goals.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development training.
  • Following agreed upon Professional Development Plan by participating in courses, conferences, workshops, professional readings, or other professional development activities to upgrade skills and keep abreast of recent developments in the field of early childhood education (The minimum training requirement is 16 hours per school year). Turn in all certificates to the Director for your file.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the NAEYC classroom portfolio.
  • Abide by the UCP Commitment to Children Policy, Preschool Confidentiality Policy and NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.

 

Actively address health and safety of children

·      Always supervise children and do no harm.

·      Follow all VA Licensing Standards.

·      Keep current with CPR and First Aid training.

·      Review periodically and follow Preschool Emergency Action Plan.

·      Inspect the classroom and playground daily for safety hazards and notify the office of any concerns.

·      Follow recommended procedures for preventing spread of disease, sanitizing the classroom daily.

·      Perform daily health screening on all children upon arrival to the classroom.

 

 

Requirements

Must pass fingerprinting and central registry background checks.

Must have some experience working with children.
