JOB TITLE: Prescription Assistance
ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION: The mission of Mid-State Health Center is to provide sound primary care to the community, accessible to all regardless of their ability to pay.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Prescription Assistant Coordinator’s primary roles will be to answer calls pertaining to prescription refills and accurately disseminate messages and refilling medications. Must have the ability to multitask, work independently and accurately. Teamwork and excellent customer service skills are essential to this position.
Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Adheres to established MSHC policies and procedures.
- Keeps current with and adheres to state and federal Pharmacy regulations.
- Incorporates Medical Home model of care into daily practice.
- Collaborates with and assists Clinicians in filling medication refill requests in a timely manner and in accordance with state and federal pharmacy regulations.
- Documents according to established protocol in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Process and/or route prescription refill requests received through various media including phone, email, fax, eMDs
- Collaborates with and assists pharmacies in verification of prescriptions written.
- Accurately and timely documents appropriate information in the patient record.
- Process Prescription Assistance Program referrals and applications and maintain prescription assistance medication log.
- Adheres to and enforces controlled substance medication prescription according to established protocol in accordance with Patient Narcotic Contract.
- Demonstrates Mid-State Health Center’s values of teamwork, respect, and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors. Actively and appropriately participate in problem solving identification and resolution.
- Performs other duties including Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) as requested or assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION: High School graduate or equivalent required. Prefer at least two years of college.
EXPERIENCE: Two years of related experience in positions such as Pharmacy Technician, Medical Assistant, or In-Patient Unit Coordinator.
KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with concise and appropriate documentation.
- Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and complete assignments in timely manner.
- Skill in maintaining a safe work environment with attention to infection control, safety and confidentiality policies.
- Strong phone and computer skills. Ability maintains strict confidentiality and reports any illegal or unethical act involving another employee or anyone acting on behalf of the organization.
- Ability to respond to ever changing environment reacts calmly and competently in emergency situations.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
- Ability to work collaboratively with all members of the health care team and promote a positive work environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, in writing, and by phone.
- Ability to comply with established policies and procedures.
