Summary

The teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns. 

Duties

  • Maintain a safe environment at all times
  • Create age-appropriate, weekly lesson plans
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills
  • Assess the children's development throughout the school year
  • Familiarize oneself with DSS regulations and company policies
  • Establish positive working relationships with other staff members
  • Communicate effectively with parents of children

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old
  • Must have a minimum of a high school diploma
  • ECD101 is preferred
  • Must meet state licensing requirements, including background check and 6 months experience in a licensed child care center
