Summary


Building Kidz is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Cook to join our team in providing nutritious meals for our students and to manage our kitchen. If you love menu planning, cooking, and baking and want to be part of helping children love to eat good food, we want to talk with you! Hours: 7:30-4:00, M-F. (If you are interested in part-time hours, your application will be considered.)

Duties

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Preparation of nutritious meals and snacks for infant, toddler, and preschool enrollees;
  • Organization and timely distribution of food to classrooms as established by the daily class schedule;
  • Developing monthly menus that take into consideration nutrition, variety, special dietary requirements and/or restrictions, scope, and budget;
  • Engaging with parents and families to understand any personal or cultural food preferences or food allergies regarding their child(ren);
  • Engaging with parents, families, and staff to provide guidance and information regarding early childhood nutrition and developing and instilling healthy eating habits;
  • Maintaining a sanitary, clean, organized, and safe kitchen;
  • Engaging in and ensuring adherence to safe food handling and storage techniques;
  • Creating a weekly shopping list; duties may include a weekly food-shopping trip.

Requirements

Successful Candidates Must Have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to pass a background check and have a negative TB test
  • Possess or acquire a Louisville Metro Food Service Sanitation Management course completion certificate
  • Ability to stand for long periods and to work safely around kitchen appliances
  • Ability to work independently              
  • Problem-solving capabilities and ability to adhere to an established schedule
  • Ability to respond to changing needs and priorities
  • A strong work ethic and desire for self-development
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills

    


Nice To Haves


Experience strongly preferred but we will train the truly motivated candidate. Nice-to-haves include:

  • 1 year of experience in food preparation
  • Understanding of the USDA dietary guidelines for young children
  • Experience in Early Childhood Education
  • Management background and/or ability to lead others
