Under the assistance of the Childcare Development Program Manager, the Camp Director of Extended Day will assist with the development and implementation of all camp activities and staff within Summer Escape, specifically during Extended Day. The Camp Director of Extended Day will provide a safe and nurturing environment for everyone; will be actively involved in the day-to-day operations and have a positive attitude about all programs.
· Classroom/behavior management of groups of up to 24 children ages 4-13
· Management of large groups (up to 130) of children ages 4-13
· Administrative, managerial, and organizational skills
· Ability to manage and supervise staff
· Supervision of Extended Day Team Leaders
· Assist CIT Director in supervision of Counselors-in-Training
· Demonstrated desire and ability to work with and relate to children, teens, and one’s peers
· Demonstrated ability to create, schedule, organize and implement day camp activities, special events and training activities
· Physical, visual, and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities. Must be able to run, walk or stand and fully participate in camp activities for up to 8 hours
· Demonstrated ability to take initiative, effectively communicate with children and adults and manage large and small groups
· Good role model, of high integrity, and adaptable
· Must be at least 21 years old
· At least 16 weeks of successful administrative experience or equivalent (as defined by the State of CT) in a licensed camp setting. Must be qualified as an alternate camp director per State of Connecticut regulations
· At least one year of successful experience as a counselor, unit director, or specialty director at a licensed day or resident camp
· Current First Aid and CPR certifications, Administration of Medication and Epi-Pen certifications or willing to obtain
· At least 1 year of post-high school education in a related field (ex. Education, recreation, human services)
· Ability to escort children from location to location, inside and outside school building
· Ability to lift and carry supplies, up to 25 pounds
· Ability to work both outdoors and indoors, in some cases without air conditioning
· Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time
· Ability to demonstrate and lead activities to children, including those listed in position summary
· Must have required certification in pediatric CPR, first aid, medication administration, and epi-pen administration or obtain in a timely manner
· Must submit fingerprint and background check
· Must submit health form indicating physical exam within the past 12 months and evidence of a TB test
· Must be available from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM Monday through Friday when camp is in session and for all training dates
· High School Diploma/GED
· Experience working with children
· Degree in education or related field preferred
