Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Assist co-teacher in designing age appropriate works and planning curriculum for the assigned age group. Actively engage with children in their activities, when necessary. Encourage the development of emerging self-help skills. Maintain a clean classroom environment, following the CLC Director directives as well as state guidelines.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Children’s Learning Center Director

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises children enrolled in the Mid-State Children’s Learning Center

Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·        Assist co-teacher in planning and implementing weekly, monthly, and yearly classroom curriculum and activities. 

·        Strong ability to work effectively and support members of the team.

·        Supervise children in care, ensuring safety and respect.

·        Clean the classroom daily, following the Center and NH state guidelines.

·        Tone keep in the classroom daily, through modeling appropriate behavior and redirection, when necessary.

·        Maintain at least 18 hours of professional development, seeking out opportunities when necessary.

·        Follow all applicable regulations and procedures regarding health and safety of children.

·        Maintain CPR and First Aid certification.

·        Participate in parent-teacher conferences, when necessary.

·        Attend all open house, curriculum night and other special events.

The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to the job position.

EXPERIENCE: (As required by the NH State Child Care Licensing Bureau)

·        Have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma, be at least 18 years of age, have a minimum of 1,000 hours experience working with children in a licensed childcare program; and meet one of the following pre-service training/education options:

 

1.    A minimum of 18 credits in child development, early childhood or elementary education or other field of study focused on children from a regionally accredited college or university, including at least 3 credits in child growth and development; Plus a minimum of 1,000 experience working with children in a licensed child care program or public or private elementary.

2.    A minimum of 12 credits in related coursework, plus 3000 hours experience working with children in a licensed child care program or public or private elementary school;

3.    Documentation of a non-expired child development associates (CDA) in center-based programs awarded by the council for professional recognition;

4.    A credential from a teacher preparation program accredited by MACTE.

5.    Five years as a licensed family child care provider with no enforcement actions imposed by the department;

6.    Successful completion of the New Hampshire Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program;

7.    A minimum of 1,000 hours of supervised child care experience in licensed child care program, documentation of successful completion of a 2 year vocational course in career and technical education with an additional 9 credits in related coursework; or

8.    Documentation from or on file with the department that she or he was qualified for and employed in the position of lead teacher on or before November 6, 2017

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Work may require hand dexterity for office machine operation, stooping, bending, mobility to complete errands or sitting for extended periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. 

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Involves frequent contact with parents/family members and daily interactions with children. May require assisting young children with toileting.
