Summary

MFCC is looking for up to four locally engaged volunteer teens who will support some exciting events and programs over the next several months. This is a great opportunity to complete service learning hours, learn more about your local community center, and support younger children while getting paid and sharing your opinion! 


Must be at least 14 years of age. Experience volunteering in your school or community is preferred. 

Duties

Afterschool Program Support at Milton Afterschool Kids (Optional)

  • Help to initiate, direct, and facilitate activities with children to aid in development of socialization and self-help, language and reading, math, fine and gross motor skills, art, play, storytelling, songs, and dramatic play.
  • Ensure students safe arrival and departure within the afterschool program areas of use. 
  • Assist in safe distribution of nutritious snacks to students. 
  • Complete the minimum annual professional development training hours, and submit appropriate documentation via BFIS, as required by VT licensing regulations requirements. 
  • Maintain certification in First Aid and CPR for infants/children.

Volunteers under 18 are not able to be left alone with children at any time while supporting the MASK program. 


Family support & community development

  • Adhere to the MFCC Volunteer Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Support the successful facilitation of monthly community events (primarily between Jan 2024 and June 2024) alongside Center staff and volunteers. Help with tasks as assigned, ranging from set-up and take-down, facilitating youth activities, preparing or serving food, and more. 
  • Research community needs through various methods, taught by Center staff or volunteers. This may include survey creation and data collection, focus group facilitation or participation, or online search-based research. Present findings to community stakeholders as a part of a group. 

Other projects may be expanded or added as interests and organization needs align. 

Requirements

Must be between 14 and 18 years old.

Must be able to attend between 2-3 events held on nights or weekends between now and July 1, 2024.

Must be excited to work with community members, including younger children.

Nice To Haves

Previous leadership experience and/or community engagement exprience.

Benefits

While this is a volunteer position, accepted applicants will receive a stipend for service of $50 per community event. This position is not eligible for benefits. Successful volunteers are eligible for a Letter of Recommendation from MFCC staff.
